Broker sites primarily exist to get you to sign up as a client. They often underestimate the difficulty of trading – they make it seem so easy. But often these sites include useful information such as upcoming news releases.

One very useful feature that most brokers offer is demo accounts. These allow you to test out your trading in real time without risking a cent of your own money.

Education sites

Some companies offer to teach you about forex trading. They vary greatly in quality, but the good ones offer online consultancy with experts, coaching, psychological development, access to past market data and analysis of different trading systems etc. This is not only helpful for newcomers but for the experienced traders too as they get the chance to evaluate themselves and even polish their skills to become more knowledgeable about forex trading.

The poor quality education sites will take your money, and offer no support or help, and teach nothing that you can’t find elsewhere. Again, check reviews, not advertising or affiliates before putting down your money.

Forums

Trading forums provide the opportunity to communicate with other traders. Here, people share their experience with other traders and discuss market issues, trading opportunities and views and trading systems development.

You need to be careful with forums. They can be a very useful place to learn about the business from those who are doing it for years, but it is hard to tell whether a posting is useful, or the blind leading the blind. In particular, you need to develop your own systems and views of the market, and forums are not a short cut to this knowledge.

Also, some people spend all their time on forums, and none on developing their own systems. So beware – use forums to your benefit, but don’t become dependent on them.

News and calendar releases

Forex is news driven market. Release of market sensitive information like economic data or some sudden political event can greatly effect the market. That makes it vital to have access to a trading calendar so that you know when news releases are due.

Many traders use market news for their trading. Sites such as Reuters offer breaking news and market prices. Also, brokers often offer this information.

Conclusion

There is a wealth of information about forex trading online, but it varies greatly in quality. Many sites simply seek to sell you something.

Be skeptical and discerning, and you will find a list of sites that you refer to again and again.
